Profile: A feminine interpretation of the western bolo tie, this piece features a bronze belt piece at its center (patterns vary). These belts were worn by the Akha and Chin hill tribes of Burma, and were made using the lost wax bronze casting method prior to the Second World War. Because they are hand cast, each pouring yields a slightly different result, and there is variation in each design. « Ceinture noire » is French for “the black belt," referencing not only the central belt piece, but also a layer of strength and protection - a phrase describing the physical prowess and expertise it takes to reach the highest level of achievement in martial arts.
